Rotational Energy

Also referred to as angular kinetic energy. Similar to energy of an object moving translationally, but now it’s rotating.

  • Rotational kinetic energy

Rotational kinetic energy is the kinetic energy associated with rotation about an axis. For a rigid body about a fixed axis it is one half of rotational inertia times angular speed squared. For example, a rolling wheel can possess both translational kinetic energy of its center of mass and rotational kinetic energy about that center.
